Park on the mainland in a private lot, then take a (cheap) 5-minute water taxi down a protected waterway to a 2 km long barrier island. Tres Rios is an island only in that it is cut off from the mainland by a river. "Tres Rios" is flanked by 3 year-round rivers: the Chiriqui Viejo, Duablo and Escaria Rivers... hence the name "Tres Rios" (= Three Rivers)! All these safe waterways means great boating, fishing and birding! Behind the island is National forest, with monkeys and parrots etc.
Year-round well water. Alternative electricity needed. How about a wind-generator to catch the constant, refreshing sea breeze? Sellers planted thousands of fruit, nut,shade and flowering trees on the island, giving it a tropical look. Seller's caretaker/watchman lives close by, for security. Very safe swimming beach. 2 surfing spots at the mouths of the rivers.
Remember that the Pacific coast gets less than half the rainfall as mountain locations (like Boquete) And half the rainfall of the Caribbean (like Bocas)! |
